It’s More Than a Bill

circles

Every day, Careworks bill review receives thousands of medical bills for review.

Some may think we are only touching paperwork and not touching lives – but that perception couldn’t be further from the truth.

Within bill review, we do more than process documents; we engage with each other, offer reassurance that the process will continue smoothly, and demonstrate compassion through the diligence and care we bring to our work. This creates a ripple effect that doesn’t just stay in bill review but extends across the entire process until the hopeful return to work.

Take, for instance, a catastrophic injury. From the moment an emergency call is placed, a series of bills begins to form – one for the ambulance, another for the hospital admission, and more for surgery, medication, and therapy. One after another, these bills fly in, each one marking a critical moment in an employee’s injury and journey to recovery. It is here, in the quiet precision of our work, that the greatest impact occurs.

If a bill is delayed or mishandled, care may be postponed. And when care is postponed, an injured employee’s path to healing may be jeopardized. For one person, this could mean missing a physical therapy appointment, but for another, it could mean postponing a life-altering procedure.

However, when our process runs seamlessly, the results are profound. The injured employee can move from surgery to physical therapy to transitional work placement, and ultimately, return to work, all without ever having to worry whether the next step in their recovery will be supported. This is when we know we have succeeded.

“In the course of managing a high volume of bills, the impact of handling each accurately and in a timely fashion may feel like process, but the reality is that it is much bigger than that.  Each of these transactions contributes to a person’s recovery and ultimate return to productivity,” said Kerri Wilson, SVP of Managed Care Operations.

So today, we want to thank everyone in bill review and our clients who put their trust in us.  By working together, we are making a difference. Because it’s more than a bill – it’s someone’s livelihood and well-being we are entrusted with.
