Memorable experience
A couple of years ago, I was assisting an injured employee through his recovery journey. One of the unexpected barriers to attending physical therapy and returning to work was his elderly dog. Around the same time as the employee’s injury, his beloved pet developed serious health issues.
The stress and emotional burden of caring for his dog began to weigh heavily on him, making it difficult to focus on his own recovery. We took time to talk through his situation and explore supportive options, both practical solutions and emotional support, that could help ease his responsibilities and allow him to move forward in his rehabilitation.
Careworks approach to injured employees’ recovery aligns with my own values – addressing the needs of the whole person as they navigate an unexpected injury with compassion and support.
Power of choice
To me, it’s about empowering individuals to recognize that they have agency, even in difficult and uncertain circumstances. In this industry, I apply that by helping people identify and work through the barriers, whether practical or emotional, that may be preventing them from achieving their recovery goals or returning to work.
It’s important to create space for individuals to see that they have options and that they play an active role in shaping their path forward. Even in situations that feel overwhelming, reinforcing that sense of choice can build resilience and a greater commitment to their own progress.
By consistently approaching each interaction with this mindset, I aim to support people in making informed decisions that ultimately lead to better outcomes and a more compassionate industry overall.
