Meet Malarie Martin, FCM, RN, MBA
Malarie obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rosman University. She also obtained her MBA in healthcare management from West Texas A&M. She has several years of experience in the healthcare industry, bringing a diverse clinical background that includes the emergency department, labor and delivery, preoperative and PACU care, the operating room, and pediatric oncology. Her leadership experience includes serving as the director of nursing and an administrator of surgical centers as well as eleven years of military leadership prior to her healthcare career.

Challenge
*William, a 44-year-old warehouse supervisor, sustained a devastating crush injury after becoming pinned between a motorized pallet jack and a trailer in December 2025. The incident resulted in multiple significant injuries, including fractures of the pelvis, sacrum, and lumbar spine, creating a complex pelvic ring injury.
Following the accident, the William experienced severe pain, limited mobility, and an inability to ambulate safely. The severity of the injuries necessitated inpatient rehabilitation, extensive pain management, and ongoing monitoring for potential complications. Given the complexity of recovery, coordinating multidisciplinary treatment while maintaining adherence to Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) presented a significant challenge.
The injury placed William at risk for an extended absence from work, making timely intervention and effective care coordination critical to achieving positive outcomes.
Solution
Field Case Management (FCM) became involved early in the recovery process to help coordinate care and support the injured employee through every stage of treatment.
Working closely with the rehabilitation team, treating providers, claims professionals, and legal representatives, Malarie ensured continuity of care from inpatient rehabilitation through outpatient treatment. Physical therapy services were secured without interruption, allowing William to progress consistently toward recovery goals.
Recognizing potential barriers to treatment compliance, transportation services were coordinated to ensure reliable attendance at medical appointments and therapy sessions. Throughout the claim, Malarie maintained ongoing communication among all stakeholders, promoting collaboration, reducing delays, and ensuring treatment remained aligned with ODG recommendations.
In addition to coordinating services, Malarie provided education, encouragement, and support that helped keep William engaged in treatment and focused on recovery objectives.

He successfully returned to full-duty work with no restrictions on May 21, 2026, within ODG benchmarks for recovery. Treatment progressed without interruption, all appropriate services remained coordinated, and no transfer-of-care delays occurred throughout the claim.
The claim was successfully closed on June 12, 2026, following William’s return to work and continued recovery progress. Through coordinated rehabilitation, consistent communication, transportation support, and adherence to evidence-based guidelines, William achieved an optimal recovery outcome and returned to productive employment.
